Wayanad
Nested among the mountains of the Western Ghats-The District Wayanad is the most beautiful destination of God's own Country and is the most favored holiday destination of tourist visiting Kerala. Of course Wayanad is the loveliest hill stations of Kerala.The District is at eastern portion of North Kerala and set high on the majestic western ghats at a height between 700 meters and 2100 meters above the mean sea level.This is the only District which shares border with two states Karnataka and Tamilnadu .The district of Wayanad,carved out from the parts of Kozhikode
and Kannur districts, came into existence on 1st November, 1980 as the 12th District of Kerala. It is believed that the name Wayanad is derived from 'Vayal Nadu' which means the land of paddy fields. The district consisting of three Taluks, namely Mananthavady, Sulthanbathery and Vythiri, comprising an area of 2132 sq km. Of which about 885.92.sq.km of area is under forest.This green paradise offers must visit destinations such as Wayanad WildlifeSanctuary, Chembra Peaks, Edakkal Caves, Kuruva Island, Banasura Dam?etc.
